There are several general and sector-specific professional development pathways available to health care professionals who would like to increase their ability to care for patients with life-limiting illnesses.

These options include:

  1. Complete the two-day Palliative Care: The Essentials program. This University of Melbourne program has been designed for all health professionals who currently work, or are seeking to work, in palliative care. Whilst it is a core subject within the Specialist and Graduate Certificates in Palliative Care, it can be completed as a short course. Download the brochure for more information.
  2. Undertake the full University of Melbourne post graduate Specialist Certificate in Palliative Care course, which aims to become the industry standard for all professionals working in palliative care. Download the brochure for more information.
  3. Apply for the Victorian Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (PEPA), which provides a broad range of health care professionals with the opportunity to increase their experience, knowledge and skills in palliative care. See the PEPA website for details.
  4. Visit CareSearch, an online resource that can provide additional information on palliative care education and professional development opportunities in palliative care.
  5. For other courses or professional development relevant to palliative care, see Palliative Care Victoria, Palliative Care Australia , the Lymphoedema Association of Australia or the Cancer Council of Victoria.
