Multicultural Victorian’s Views On Information Provided In The Care Plan For The Dying Person

Multicultural Victorian’s Views On And Responsiveness To Information Provided In The Care Plan For The Dying Person – Victoria Family Member/Friend Information Brochure

Aim

To develop validated culturally responsive versions of the Care Plan for the Dying Person – Victoria (CPDP-Vic) Family Member/Friend Information brochure for use in relevant acute and sub-acute care settings across Victoria.

Research Overview

The purpose of this project is to develop end-of-life care related consumer information which has been tested and validated with five culturally and linguistically diverse groups (CALD). The insights gained will ensure the translated content is an effective interpretation of key concepts contained within the brochure and meets the needs of each cultural group with regards to information about the CPDP-Vic, how it guides care decisions and what to expect as death approaches.

Information gathered at focus groups held with participants from Arabic, Greek, Italian, Mandarin and Vietnamese as first language backgrounds will be used to address current inequity in access to information to family member and friends of dying people from CALD backgrounds. In addition, the brochures will assist health professionals to effectively communicate with consumers at what is known to be an emotionally distressing time, when there is recognition in the hospital setting that a person is imminently dying.
